Bonneville Locks and Multnomah Falls

So, it has been a while since I wrote.  Sorry about that.  I've been following a few friends who still blog and I have to say...it's a bit intimidating.  Some of them are such better writers than I am.  Oh well, on with the show.

In my last post I talked about Disneyland.  I also mentioned that we had bought tickets to go on an Alaskan Cruise this summer.  Well, I still have about 5,000 pictures to sort through from Alaska, but I am starting to narrow down the week before.  So this is from that.

Despite having started a brand new job a month earlier, we decided to stick with our original plan of driving to Oregon, picking up Annette and Alita (who was there for a conference) and spending a week touring the Northwest before landing in Seattle to board the ship.  It was a great week and I now understand why people from Oregon are so proud of that fact.  It is GORGEOUS!!!

One of the two days we had in Portland, we decided to drive back out of the city and go to the Bonneville Locks and Multnomah Falls.  I didn't know anything about either, we just happened to see a road sign, but Alita, who had actually done research, told us that these were both "must see" destinations.  And she was right.

First the locks.  SO IMPRESSIVE!  It was crazy to see how much water and power was here.  And it was actually really pretty scenery.  They also said the Salmon were beginning to run, so we got to see a TON of them coming up the fish latter.  Also very cool.

You can probably tell from this picture which of us are from Utah and which are from Arizona (the wimps.)

Then we were off to the falls.  We grew up about an hour out of Yosemite National Park.  We went there at least once a year for about 20 years of my life.  I love Yosemite.  In my opinion, that's what Heaven is going to look like (only with bears I can actually play with. :) )  So when people tell me about an impressive waterfall - I tend to be extremely skeptical.  For example, Waterfall Canyon in Ogden...not worth the hike.

Alita had read that Multnomah Falls is the 2nd highest falls in North America (Yosemite Falls being 1st of course.)  So I decided to keep an open mind although I was still ready to be underwhelmed.  It was AWESOME!

Annette and Dad hiked up to the bridge.  The rest of us enjoyed the view from the bottom.

It really was a beautiful falls.  Not Yosemite, but a respectable second.

Especially when the setting sun hit!

We only had two days in Portland.  I am definitely ready to go back.  It is a beautiful city.
