Mackinac Island
Our second stop on our Michigan Tour was Mackinac Island. A fabulous place and where I would buy a summer home if I was the kind of person who had the kind of money to buy a "summer home" with. The absolute coolest thing about it - the horses!!! They have a no car rule on the island so you have to walk, bike or have a horse to get around. It was awesome!!!!
We started by taking the ferry. This already means it's going to be a good trip because I love boats. I don't care how big or small, being on a boat is cool.
In this case, it was downright COLD!!!! We were driving into the wind and anyone who has been to Michigan knows that its not the most pleasant of winds.
The rest of our group chickened out and stayed "inside" but Mom, Dad and I were on top the whole trip.
And were rewarded with beautiful views of the Island.
We stayed in the lake View Hotel which was across the street from the beach. It was a gorgeous old hotel. Anyone who knows me knows that hotels are just about my favorite part of any vacation, and this was no exception!
The horses were gorgeous, but when I managed to stop looking at them, the Island is also really beautiful.
Also quite cold. :)
But it was hard to look at anything but horses.
Our brunch was full of fancy (weird) food.
If the Grand Hotel looks familiar at all, it's probably because this is where they filmed the truly cheese-ridden movie "Somewhere in Time". If you had college roommates like me, you've probably seen it.
A very fun old place!

The view from our hotel.
The next day we had a carriage tour of the island. So much fun. The horses were gorgeous, but when I managed to stop looking at them, the Island is also really beautiful.

Our carriage tour ended us at the Grand Hotel. A very, VERY fancy place. Kind of reminds you of what life would have been like if you were a Vanderbilt during the 1900s. :)
