Castle Valley Pagent

Well, thanks to all the storm and fuss about getting my birthday and Rocky Mountain National Park blogged, I overlooked some important pictures. I don't like to do that, so everyone, back off. I'll blog when I feel like it.

Okay, so that's a little harsh. I don't mind the "friendly" reminders. I was sad though when I realized that I had overlooked the Castle Valley Pageant and our weekend in Price. Of course, some might say that the only thing to do with a weekend in Price is overlook it, but after living in Hawthorne for 20 years, anywhere with a Wal-Mart impresses me. So I took pictures.

I don't know if you all remember (I sure didn't until I interviewed her for a paper) that Grandma worked a good many years at J.C. Penney, first in California and then in Price. Well, it turns out that Price is such a big town, they still have that J.C. Penneys

We also went out to Cleveland (the one in Utah not Ohio) and saw the house that Grandma and her family grew up in. It's pretty amazing that it's still there, well, what's left of it.
And don't let the pictures fool you, it's teeny! I don't know how her whole family fit in there.
After we tripped around Price and took a jont down memory lane we went to the Castle Valley Pageant. For any of you who have been avoiding this pageant for the reason that "seen one, seen 'em all" trust me, you haven't seen this. It's really nothing like the other pageants I've been to (and yes, I've been to more than one.)

First of all it's up on a plateau with a gorgeous background.

There were also people doing demonstrations of "pioneery" things. The one that hit me was a couple of people making honey candy. I started crying as soon as I put it in my mouth. I haven't had anything remind me so much and so strong of Grandpa in a long time

They also had a lot of horses (they used them in the pageant) that were trotting around giving people wagon rides. It was really fun, and of course they were gorgeous.

They also had a donkey. He was adorable until he tried to eat my button.
The scenery was gorgeous. There was a thunderstorm in the distance and the lighting really added to the ambiance.

It was a really fun weekend. Although I don't want to move to Price anytime soon, or later for that matter, it was a fun weekend.
