GET SMART
Wednesday I decided that I needed a movie day. I had arranged with Dave to go to Mamma Mia at ten (it was a holiday on Thursday so I could stay out late) so I decided to make a day of it and go to a seven o’clock movie as well. So I decided to go to “Get Smart” again. It’s really a funny movie and I recommend that everyone see it. The first time Mom and I went to see it, I was laughing so hard and so loud that she was embarrassed. Well, I was a little worried that the only reason I liked it so much was because I was excessively tired that day and even “Love Guru” would have been funny, thankfully, that wasn’t the case. It’s a really funny movie.
I haven’t ever really watched the TV show. I think I saw one episode once and it must have been a little later in the series because 99 was pregnant. So if whether or not the movie is faithful to the TV show, I couldn’t tell you. But I will tell you the top reasons to go and see it.
1. Dwayne Johnson (aka the Rock). Not only is he gorgeous (which he is) he’s actually really pretty funny. There’s a lovely part (that I think was in the preview) where he staples a piece of paper to someone’s head because the person jammed the copier. Well, I work in an office, and trust me, leaving a copier jammed is a punishable offence.
2. Alan Arkin is a great actor. I have had a crush on him since the first time I saw “Wait Until Dark” but when I saw him in “Little Miss Sunshine” I was truly impressed. In this movie, he is really funny.
3. Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway to a presentable job as well. I’m not really that huge of a Steve Carell fan. I don’t watch the Office and I think the only movie of his that I’ve really seen was “Evan Almighty”, but he was really good in this.
So overall, it is a very light-hearted and enjoyable film. I’m sure most of you will wait until it comes out on video and I can’t say that you’ll really be harming the experience at all to do that. If you have the opportunity to see it in the theater, do, but if not, definitely catch it on video.
